James rated it really liked it Oct 01, Batt,e armor enthusiasts few battles rank as high in terms of interest as the one fought in July of near the small Russian town of Prokhorovka; a struggle occurring during the Wehrmacht’s summer offensive against the Soviet held Kursk bulge in German lines.
Prokhorovma has the added benefit of providing the reader with a more holistic look at how in reality a series of interconnected decisions and battles ultimately decided Citadel’s fate – rather than just the July 12th combat near Prokhorovka itself. Zamulin is to be congratulated on writing a highly convincing and thorough analysis of the tank battle at Prokhorovka.

Hardcoverpages. In prohorovka end at least a daily breakdown of activity, losses and ordnance used would be great plus some analysis of their performance. While this gives you excellent overview of details what I miss is bigger map of Belgorod-Prokhoro Finally a book about Kursk battle from Soviet side!

John dunn rated it did not like it Jun 16, An Operational Narrative Valeriy Zamulin has painstakingly dejolishing and investigated a wealth of primary sources to produce perhaps the most accurate look yet at why and how the German offensive failed to meet its objectives. He examines mistaken deployments and faulty decisions that hampered the Voronezh Front’s efforts to contain the Fourth Panzer Army’s assault, and the valiant, self-sacrificial fighting of the Red Army’s soldiers and junior officers as bartle sought to slow the German advance, and then crush the II SS Panzer Corps with a heavy counterattack at Prokhorovka on 12 July.
Even though hhe well beyond just looking at events on July 12th near Prokhorovka this work is undoubtedly one whose bulk is devoted to a study of the II SS Panzer Corps attack into the Voronezh Front’s deeply echeloned defenses and the Red Army’s response to this attack.
